Tom Cruise’s Most “Tom Cruise” Movie Is Among The Movies On TV Tonight

Happy Valentine day.

It is, in fact, the most romantic day in recorded history.

Until the next one, of course.

As such, we expect the “Movies on TV” schedule to reflect this and only offer romance-themed comedies, dramas, and maybe even horrors.

Surely we won’t be ‘treated’ to a random Dirty Harry movie on ITV4 or a 90s actor on TCM, will we?

Here’s what it looks like on the Monday, February 14 box…

A Room with a View – Film4 – 6:45 p.m.

Helena Bonham Carter goes on vacation to Florence. Romance ensues.

A Nightmare on Elm Street – Turner Classic Movies/TCM – 9pm

Nothin’ says Happy Valentines as the very first time Freddy Krueger terrorized an entire generation of school children by invading their dreams and slicing them with his signature razor glove.

Mom – Horror Channel – 9pm

Atmospheric horror with Jessica Chastain.

Two feral maidens are rescued from the woods, but it soon becomes apparent that something dark and deadly has been following them.

In the line of fire – ITV4 – 9 p.m.

Clint Eastwood plays a possibly over-the-top Secret Service agent, desperate to redeem himself and thwart a dangerous assassin – expertly played by John Malkovich – in the process.

Not very romantic, nor is Eastwood’s creepy and aggressive pursuit of Rene Russo.

Jerry Maguire – Movie4 – 9pm

Our main pick tonight is powered by Tom Cruise’s million dollar smile.

There are those of us who consider Cruise the last big movie star.

And there are those who cannot outgrow his personal life.

Either way, Jerry Maguire puts on perhaps the most “Tom Cruise” performance of Tom Cruise ever filmed as an arrogant sports agent who has the rug pulled out from under him at the peak of his powers.

Disgraced and almost alone, Maguire must try to put it all back together.

Add to that a superb script, a star turn from Renee Zellweger and an Oscar-winning performance from Cuba Gooding Jr and you have a modern classic, my friends.

The English Patient – TG4 – 9:30 p.m.

After surviving a plane crash, Ralph Fiennes tells the story of a doomed love affair.

Directed by the late Anthony Minghella, it was a massive Oscar success, winning nine awards in total.

Willem Dafoe, Colin Firth, Kristen Scott Thomas and Juliette Binoche co-star.

Magnum Force – TCM – 10:55 p.m.

Hey, remember we said something about a random Dirty Harry movie?

Well, we were right. Outside the channel, that is.

Disobedience – Film4 – 11:50 p.m.

Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams shine in a deeply forbidden romance.

Martian attacks! – TCM – 1h25

Tim Burton’s star-studded sci-fi farce is here for the late-night crowd.
