Central Texas Woman Recreates Perfect Valentine’s Day Date With ‘First Love’ She Dumped In 8th Grade

KOSE, Texas (KWTX) – A Central Texas woman is making up for lost time by recreating what she says would have been the perfect Valentine’s Day date she would have taken in the 1990s with the man she calls “her first love” if she hadn’t dropped him on the 8th note.

And to make up for the grief, 48-year-old Nikki Cronk went all out.

Massage therapist Kosse planned a pizza dinner, an afternoon of golf and rented an entire skating rink, as well as an entire movie theater to spoil her husband of five years, Jim Bob.

“(Jim) was my college boyfriend and unfortunately I broke his heart and every day he reminds me that ‘well if you had stayed with me we would have gone on this date and on this date'” , said Nikki.

“So this year, I’m calling it an ‘I could do it’ day.”

The love story of the Kosse couple dates back to the 7th grade.

The lovebirds were in the same class at Mexia Middle School and were romantically involved until their breakup just before high school.

“He was my first love. He was. Yes, he was,” Nikki recalled.

Unfortunately, the couple separated after graduating from Mexia High School in 1992. Both got married and started their own families, but life did not turn out as they had hoped.

A few years ago, a chance encounter at a Walmart changed their lives.

“We were both divorced and we met one night at Walmart, we hit it off and decided we would have a lunch date someday and we never stopped talking,” said Nikki.

Nikki and Jim Bob tied the knot in 2016 and say life together has been fantastic, but Jim Bob is still giving his wife a hard time about that heartbreak he had when he was 14.

Over the past five years, the couple have rotated planning Valentine’s Day and this year it was Nikki’s turn.

Every detail today was a surprise for Jim Bob.

“I just told him he had to take time off work on Monday and dress comfortably,” she laughed.

The morning started at Skate Waco, where Nikki rented the entire rink for an hour.

“We didn’t want to make a fool of ourselves for one thing because we’re almost 50,” she laughed. “I didn’t want everyone to see us, and we could rent it, so I thought ‘why not?'”

After skating, the lovebirds headed for pizza at Poppa Rollo.

Nikki says she imagines three decades ago they probably would have gone to Lion’s Park next, but since it’s now closed, they headed to Top Golf.

The day ended with the couple heading to the Cinemark Theater in Waco where Nikki rented the entire theater for the two of them just to see the 3:45 p.m. screening of “Marry Me.”

“Dinner and a movie – that was another popular get-together in the 90s,” she said.

Nikki said she planned the day of over-the-top surprises because she wanted to show her first love how much she appreciates him.

“Just because he’s such a caring and loving gentleman,” Nikki said. “He’s so good to me and sometimes I feel completely pissed off and he’s the only one who can calm me down and straighten me out. He’s just the best guy I know.

Jim Bob said it was a day he would never forget.

“Things like that are why I’ve always loved her,” Jim Bob said. “She’s great and makes life fun and exciting.”
